I’m aware that this isn’t a new story but I happened to run across it this morning and I had to say something.
“I sincerely love you, and my love is not contingent on how you feel about me.”
– Phil Robertson
When I heard this I couldn’t help but scoff because it’s such a blatant lie. This repugnant fool can’t love, after all, he’s demonstrated again and again that he doesn’t even understand what it means to love another person. For example, in 2015 he gleefully shared his abhorrent fantasy about the rape and murder of an atheist family, this tale was supposed to make us look like heartless fiends but all it did was reveal who the real monster is.
“Two guys break into an atheist’s home. He has a little atheist wife and two little atheist daughters. Two guys break into his home and tie him up in a chair and gag him. And then they take his two daughters in front of him and rape both of them and then shoot them and they take his wife and then decapitate her head off in front of him. And then they can look at him and say, ‘Isn’t it great that I don’t have to worry about being judged? Isn’t it great that there’s nothing wrong with this? There’s no right or wrong, now is it dude?”
Note that while he’s telling us his fantasy he never mentions that the perpetrators are atheist, but the victims are, so I think it’s safe to assume that these two child raping murderers are Christians just like Robertson.
“Then you take a sharp knife and take his manhood and hold it in front of him and say, ‘Wouldn’t it be something if this was something wrong with this? But you’re the one that says there is no God, there’s no right, there’s no wrong, so we’re just having fun. We’re sick in the head, have a nice day.”
I’m sure that sanctimonious asshole was very pleased with himself and probably thought his sick fantasy proved that atheists are immoral and do not understand right from wrong, but in reality he did the exact opposite. The tale that Roberson told showed us that his god fearing mind is diseased and that people like himself are a potential threat to unbelievers, including children.
I don’t know any atheists who believe that rape, pedophilia, torture, mutilation, and/or murder are okay, there could be a couple who think this way but they’re very rare. If we were truly as horrible as he believes we are, the prison population would reflect this, and yet we account for less than one percent. This isn’t the fantasy of a loving or mentally stable person, but if this wasn’t enough to convince you that Phil Robertson lies when he says he loves everyone, there’s plenty more where that came from.
The things he’s said about the LGBT community are just oozing with Christian love, like in 2010 when he proclaimed that: “Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions. They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil.” Or like the time he told the FRC: “But I’m thinking, well, let’s see now. A clean guy — a disease-free guy and a disease-free woman — they marry and they keep their sex between the two of them. They’re not going to get chlamydia, and gonorrhea, and syphilis, and AIDS. It’s safe.” He continues: “Either it’s the wildest coincidence ever that horrible diseases follow immoral conduct, or, it’s God saying, ‘There’s a penalty for that kind of conduct.’ I’m leaning towards there’s a penalty for it.”
If you have love for someone you don’t go around slandering them and encouraging the removal or restriction of their rights. He has been very open and unapologetic about his disdain for the LGBT community, so I don’t understand how how a person can very openly hate an entire group of people and then claim to love everyone?
Not only has he given us some great examples of his sick mind and unbounded hate for LBGT people, he’s also shown us what a massive hypocrite he is by saying things like: “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ‘em, give ‘em the good news about Jesus — whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ‘em out later, you see what I’m saying?”
which is a bit of a contradiction to this quote of his: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.” Sounds pretty fucking judgy to me, but what do I know? I’m just a godless heathen.
